Love, Laughter and Our Long Goodbye
by Kristen
Three years ago I began writing a story I’d both waited my whole life to write and one I never wanted to write.
Nineteen months and tens of thousands of words later, I said my final earthly goodbye to my sweet grandma. It was the hardest word I’ve ever uttered.
It would be a lie to say the story is finished because my life will never stop being shaped by my grandma’s influence, but the words I started writing when she went into the hospital came to a close. I made some tiny tweaks, but by and large the words I put down in the moment-by-moment journey—as raw and deeply personal as they were—remained unchanged.
And now I am both excited and terrified to tell you I gifted those words to my family, and I would be honored to share them with you, too.
My memoir Love, Laughter and Our Long Goodbye is available on Amazon in both paperback and Kindle formats.*
*The back cover is not viewable on the Kindle, and that’s sad, so think about going the paperback route for the full experience.
I am SO excited to see this, and cannot wait to read it!

Hi Kristen. We didn’t know you were writing a book about your precious grandma and “somehow” stumbled upon it. Just ordered our copy from Amazon and can’t wait for its arrival! Maxine touched lives in ways she probably never knew…including a very important decision I made in my own life. What a blessing that others, who didn’t know your grandma, will be able to meet her through you and your book.

Hi Mary Ann! No one knew 🙂 I was writing for myself (throughout her illness), and I decided to share it with my family after the fact. The easiest way to do that was make it a book…and once that was done, I figured so many people loved her so much, I would share it more widely. She was indeed a huge blessing, and I’m honored (and a little scared) to share these words. And, yes, she definitely touched lives in ways she never knew!

I can just imagine your Grandma smiling in heaven and the angels rejoicing that this particular life with its delights, pranks and kindnesses is now in a package to share with the world! Off to purchase copies . . .

Most of me thinks she’d be honored and amused…and a little of me thinks she’d be alarmed I might give away some of her tricks 🙂
